Access Arrangements

We want every candidate to have a fair opportunity to demonstrate their English ability.

If you have a disability, medical condition, specific learning difficulty, ADHD, neurodivergence or another condition that may affect your ability to take IELTS, you may be able to receive access arrangements to support you during your test.

Access arrangements are considered individually and are subject to approval.

Venue accessibility

We have a range of IELTS test venues across Cyprus, and we can accommodate most access requirements. Many of our venues have lift access.

If you require full wheelchair accessibility throughout the test venue, this is available at our IELTS Cyprus Head Office in Nicosia. Please contact us before booking so that we can arrange a suitable test location for your needs.

Who can request access arrangements?

Access arrangements may be available for a wide range of circumstances, including:

  • Visual impairments

  • Hearing or speech impairments

  • Specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia

  • ADHD or other neurodivergence

  • Long-term medical conditions

  • Temporary conditions or injuries

  • Other circumstances that may affect your ability to take the test under standard conditions

If you are unsure whether your circumstances may qualify, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your requirements.

What access arrangements may be available?

Depending on your individual needs, approved access arrangements may include:

  • Extra time

  • Supervised breaks

  • Modified or accessible test materials

  • Enlarged text or other visual support

  • Screen magnification or other assistive technology

  • Screen-reading technology where appropriate

  • Accessible Speaking test materials

  • Support with hearing or speech impairments

  • A reader or scribe, where appropriate

  • Other reasonable arrangements based on your individual needs

Not every arrangement is suitable for every candidate or every test situation. We will discuss your requirements with you and advise you on what may be possible.

IELTS Cyprus is a computer-delivered test centre

All IELTS tests at IELTS Cyprus are now delivered on computer.

We no longer offer the traditional IELTS on Paper test.

We also do not offer the IELTS on Computer Writing on Paper option at our centre. This means that the Writing component of your IELTS test at IELTS Cyprus is completed by typing your answers on a computer.

If you require access arrangements because of a disability, medical condition or learning difficulty, please contact us before booking your test so that we can determine what arrangements may be available for you.

When should I contact the test centre?

Please contact us as early as possible and at least six weeks before your test date whenever possible.

Some access arrangements may take several weeks to organise or may require specially prepared materials or equipment. Early notice gives us the best opportunity to make the appropriate arrangements.

All requests are subject to approval.

Supporting evidence

Depending on the access arrangement requested, you may be asked to provide supporting information about your condition or circumstances.

The type of evidence required depends on your individual situation and the arrangement being requested.

Specific learning difficulties

Candidates requesting access arrangements because of a specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, must provide a report about their learning difficulty.

The report must:

  • Have been prepared when the candidate was aged 13 or older.

  • Confirm that the evidence of the specific learning difficulty was obtained through appropriate and recognised tests.

  • State which tests were used.

If you do not have a suitable report, please contact us before booking your test so that we can advise you.

Exemptions

In some circumstances, access arrangements may not be sufficient to allow a candidate to take one or more components of IELTS.

Candidates may apply for an exemption from one or two components of the test. Any exemption must be approved before the test.

Where an exemption is approved, the missing component score is calculated using the candidate's performance in the other components, in accordance with IELTS procedures.

Please contact us for further information about exemptions.

Fair assessment

Approved access arrangements are designed to give candidates fair access to the test. They do not change the IELTS assessment criteria.

Your test will be assessed objectively and according to the same IELTS standards as all other candidates.
